Why Choose a Private Dentist?

Why choose private dental care in the first place?

10 Benefits of Private Dentistry

  1. Range of Services – Here at Port St Mary Dental we have a much broader range of options. A good example would be the much wider range of dentures we offer privately.

  2. Preventative Care – The emphasis in private dentistry is to not only fix current problems, but also consider the patient’s long term oral health. Our most popular Silver Plan aims to maintain optimal oral health for just over 50 pence a day.

  3. Quality Materials – Private dentists generally have access to a greater range of materials. For example, here at Port St Mary Dental we NEVER use amalgam for fillings!

  4. Latest Equipment – A private practice is more inclined to invest in the latest dental technology for diagnostics and treatment. Examples of this are advanced rotary technology for all our root canal work, and the latest 3D scanning technology and digital workflow.

  5. Availability – while NHS dentists are now scarce, with some patients having to travel miles to find one with space, it is far easier to find a private dentist like us.

  6. Speed – A key advantage of private dentists is that they tend to be more readily available and tend to offer a service with shorter waiting times. Appointments with us are usually within a week, with emergencies often seen on the same day.

  7. Flexibility – NHS provision tends to be 9-5pm, and demand for appointments often outstrips supply leading to long waiting times. As an independent private practice we have the flexibility to offer a wider range with early morning, lunchtime, evening or weekend appointments by arrangement.

  8. Choice – with an island-wide network of specialist dentists offering treatment like complex root canals, implants and orthodontics, you have access to appropriate care without the usual waiting on the NHS.

  9. Quality Time – As an NHS dentist, Martyn would regularly see over 30 patients in a day. As a private dentist this amount has halved. Here at PSM we allow for longer appointment times, so that we can fully assess oral and dental health and provide preventative care/advice alongside any restoration required, often starting treatment the same day.

  10. Aesthetics – those interested in cosmetic treatments such as whitening, injectables, or invisible braces will need to find a private practice, as these are simply not available in the NHS
